Ran across a nice case of arteriolar hyalinization in a hypertensive\/diabetic patient.\u00a0 This is a 60-ish man with longstanding hypertension and diabetes mellitus II found dead at home.\u00a0 He had a history of increasing weakness and weight loss over the past few months.\u00a0 At autopsy, he had the usual hypertension\/diabetes changes, though his kidney was a bit different than what I usually see.\u00a0 His subcapsular scarring wasn’t all that bad, and his arcuate and radial arteries were only middling changed.\u00a0 However, he had pretty impressive hyalinization of his arterioles.\u00a0 The decedent’s vitreous creatinine was 4.4, estimated GFR 12.\u00a0 Here’s some pics.\u00a0 Unfortunately, he was a bit autolyzed, but it’s the thought that counts:<\/p>\n
